The Guildhall is part of the closely woven history of Bury St Edmunds. Beautifully preserved, it dates back to 1279, being the oldest continuously-used civic building in Britain. It’s also home to a the only surviving World War Two Royal Observer Corps Control Centre in the country. It offers a choice of unique spaces for your wedding day: Regency Banqueting Hall, panelled Georgian Court Room or the walled gardens, meaning you can choose the space that you feel you’d like to make your vows, have your photography and celebrate your marriage. The versatility of this space is not to be under-estimated. It’s equally suited to intimate elopement ceremonies through to full wedding days for up to 80 people. Whatever size wedding you choose, the elegance and uniqueness of this place will provide a stunning blank canvas for you to bring your wedding day dreams to life.
You’ll be well looked after by the experienced in-house team who will be on hand throughout the planning process and on your wedding day ensuring that everything runs smoothly, leaving you to celebrate your special day, either just the two of you, or with friends and family. If you are thinking of eloping, members of the in-house team would be delighted to act as witnesses to your wedding.

I knew as soon as we stepped into the Guildhall it was where we should have our wedding. High ceilings, a balcony entwined with ivy and a stage to stand on as we said our views. It had everything we needed.

What are the fess and what’s included?
With fees for ceremonies only starting from £350 (no VAT payable), you could not ask for better value for money for elopement style ceremony only bookings. These are often paired with a beautiful meal at one of the numerous highly rated restaurants in the town.
For those looking for a wedding ceremony and reception prices start from £2950 (no VAT payable).
Weddings are hosted throughout the year at the Guildhall and depending upon date there may be a discount available for weddings booked Tuesday-Thursday.
The price covers a comprehensive and well thought through list of essential and practical considerations for your wedding day:
• Access for your chosen caterers to set up and for you to decorate the tables/room the day before your wedding, usually from 1-4pm.
• Exclusive access to The Guildhall on your wedding day – Court Room & Banqueting Room.
• Access on your wedding date from 10am – 11.30pm (off site by 12 midnight).
• Access to the courtyard and gardens (weather permitting) for photographs and reception
• Access the day after from 9.00-10.30am to clear and remove any décor items etc.
• Access to our fully fitted catering kitchen at no extra charge.
• Door security after 6pm.
• Up to 80 chairs for the ceremony room.
• Up to 10 round tables, cake & present tables and 80 chairs for the reception.
• Licensed bar facilities available if required.
• No commission charged to caterers.
• No corkage charges.
• The Guildhall do not charge VAT as it is run a registered charity, Bury St Edmunds Heritage Trust
Rooms can accommodate your wedding part as follows:
The Court Room - up to 40 for dining, and 80 for your ceremony or your reception
The Banqueting Room - up to 80 for dining, ceremony and your reception
The Tudor Kitchen - up to 24 for dining and up to 35 for your ceremony and reception.
Things you may wish to think about
The Tudor Kitchen is available if required at £25 per hour – ideal for children’s activities.
There may be a charge if you require major furniture removals and there will be a charge if you would like the piano moved. All such charges to be agreed when booking.
The Guildhall can supply light refreshments/cold buffet food by arrangement or you are able to use an outside caterer; they must supply all glassware, serving dishes, crockery, cutlery etc and remove the same day. No rubbish of any kind can be left in the building or in The Guildhall’s rubbish bins. We are happy to recommend several caterers who have worked many times at The Guildhall if this would be helpful.
You will need to book and pay direct for a Registrar to conduct your ceremony. Please ensure that you discuss your date with then at an early stage as they can become very booked up.
You can hire a bar if you wish to charge for any alcoholic drinks served during your wedding. Just let The Guildhall know and they can arrange for their Licensed bar provider to supply bar facilities for you.
You are able to supply your own welcome and reception drinks, served without charge, with bar facilities provided only for the evening reception if this is more suitable for you.
